The Face Of Evil - William Bradford Bishop Jr. - Fugitive From Justice

William Bradford Bishop Jr. (born August 1, 1936 in Pasadena, CA) is a former United States Foreign Service officer who has been a fugitive from justice since allegedly murdering five members of his family in 1976. On April 10, 2014, the FBI placed him on the list of its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives.

Classification: Family Annihilator
Disappeared: March 2, 1976 (aged 39) from Jacksonville, NC
Current Location: Missing for 40+ years
Aliases: Bradford Bishop, Brad Bishop, Bradford Bishop Jr.
Known for: Wanted for five murders (Spouse, Children, Mother)

A Little Bit About The Case

He received a BS in history from Yale, and an MA in international studies from Middlebury College. Alternatively, he has been reported to have a bachelor's degree in American Studies from Yale University and a master's degree in Italian from Middlebury College. He also holds a master's degree in African Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.

After his graduation from Yale in 1959, he married Annette Wels. He then spent four years in Army counterintelligence. Bishop speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Serbo-Croat, Italian and Spanish.

After leaving the army, Bishop joined the U.S. State Department and served in the U.S. Foreign Service in many postings overseas. This included postings in the Italian cities of Verona, Milan, and Florence (where he did post-graduate work at the University of Florence). He also served as a foreign service officer in Africa, including posts in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and in Gaborone, Botswana. His last posting, which began in 1974, was at State Department Headquarters in Washington as an
Assistant Chief in the Division of Special Activities and Commercial Treaties. He was living in Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife Annette (age 37), three sons, William III (age 14), Brenton (age 10), Geoffrey (age 5), and his mother, Lobelia (age 68).

By early 1976, Bishop was anticipating a promotion at work. Bishop and his wife were both psychiatric patients. Bishop suffered from depression and insomnia and was taking the medication Serax. On the afternoon of March 1, he learned he would not receive the promotion he had sought.

After learning of this career disappointment, Bishop told his secretary he didn’t feel well and left work early. Shortly thereafter, police believe that he first drove from Foggy Bottom (the neighborhood where he worked at the U.S. State Department headquarters) to the bank where he withdrew several hundred dollars. He then drove to Montgomery Mall and bought a sledge hammer and a gas can at Sears. He then filled the gas can and family station wagon up at a gas station next to
the mall.[10] From there, he drove to Poch's hardware, which at the time, was located next to Safeway, at the intersection of River Road and Falls Road. This is where police believe he purchased a shovel and pitchfork. He returned to his home in Bethesda, Maryland, at around 7:30 to 8:00 pm (19:30 to 20:00), after the children were put to bed. The police investigation shows that his wife was probably killed first. His mother, who was returning home from walking the family's Golden Retriever, was killed next.

Finally, his three sons (aged 5, 10, and 14) were killed while they slept in their beds in an upstairs bedroom.

With the bodies loaded into the family station wagon, Bishop allegedly drove 275 miles (443 km), about a six-hour drive, to a densely wooded swamp off North Carolina Highway 94, about 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Columbia, North Carolina. There, on March 2, he dug a shallow hole where he piled the bodies, doused them with gasoline, and set them ablaze. Later the same day, a North Carolina state forest ranger was dispatched by a spotter in a fire tower to an area where smoke was rising from the trees; the fire spread over three acres. The ranger discovered the burned bodies along with a gas can, a pitchfork, and a shovel with a label of "OCH HDW", which was tracked to Poch's Hardware a week later.

It was later confirmed that Bishop visited a sporting goods store in Jacksonville, North Carolina, that same day and used his credit card to purchase tennis shoes. According to witnesses, he had the family dog, a golden retriever named Leo, with him on a leash and was possibly, but not certainly, accompanied by a woman described as "dark skinned".

According to police reports, a week later, on March 10, a neighbor of the Bishops in the Carderock
Springs neighborhood in Bethesda, grew concerned about the family's absence, claiming she hadn't seen them for about a week. The neighbor contacted local police, who dispatched a detective to the nearby neighborhood. After meeting the neighbor, who had a key to the Bishop home, the detective decided to enter the home to see if anything was wrong. As he approached the front door, he found droplets of blood on the front porch and entered the house to discover spattered blood on the floor and walls. The children's room was covered from ceiling to floor and wall to wall with blood, as well. The detective stated that in his 12 years as a police officer, it was the worst crime scene he had ever observed. In addition, it was stated that one of the most disturbing pieces of evidence were marks on the ceiling of a bedroom where two boys were sleeping in bunk beds of the hammer swinging and hitting the ceiling. Shortly afterward, dental records were used to confirm that the bodies found in North Carolina were of Bishop's wife, Annette, his mother, and three sons.

On March 18, the Bishop family car, a 1974 Chevy station wagon, was found abandoned at an isolated campground in Elkmont, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a few miles from the Appalachian Trail and about 400 miles (640 km) from the Columbia-area pyre. The car contained dog biscuits, a bloody blanket, a shotgun, an ax and a shaving kit with Serax; the spare-tire well in the trunk was full of blood. According to a witness, the car had been there since March 5–7. Police theorized that Bishop could have joined the flow of hikers on the Appalachian Trail. They attempted to follow his scent with bloodhounds, without success.

On March 19, 1976, a grand jury indicted Bishop on five counts of first-degree murder and other charges. Evidence included his disappearance, the sighting afterward in the vicinity of the bodies, and bloody stains inside the family home that matched both his fingerprints and the blood of his family members.

Bishop had approximately one week of advance time before the authorities began looking for him
and could have travelled on his U.S. diplomatic passport. Because of the methods of air travel and immigration in 1976 throughout much of the world, he could easily have avoided leaving a paper trail of any kind.

Since 1976 Bishop has been allegedly sighted numerous times in Belgium, England, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. The three most credible sightings noted by the United States Marshals Service are as follows:

In July 1978, a Swedish woman who said she had collaborated with Bishop while on a business trip in Ethiopia, reported she had spotted him twice in a public park in Stockholm, Sweden during a span of one week. She stated she was "absolutely certain" and made it clear to herself that the man was Bishop.

In January 1979, Bishop was reportedly seen by a former U.S. State Department colleague in a restroom in Sorrento, Italy. The colleague greeted the bearded man eye-to-eye, whom he personally believed to be Bishop; and asked the man impulsively "Hey. You're Brad Bishop, aren't you?" The man panicked suddenly and responded with an "Oh no," in a distinctly American accent. He then ran swiftly out of the restroom and fled onto the Sorrento alleyways.

On September 19, 1994, on a Basel, Switzerland, train platform, a neighbor on vacation in Europe who knew Bishop and his family in Bethesda reported that she had seen Bishop from a few feet away. The neighbor described Bishop as "well-groomed" and in a car.

As of 2010, authorities believe he is alive, living in Switzerland, Italy or some other location in Europe. He may still be in the U.S. in California and may have worked as a teacher or been involved in criminal activities. Although Bishop is legally American by nationality, it is widely believed that he may be living his life footloose in Europe as a place of refuge due to many more leads within this continent, compared with the lack of leads elsewhere.

Adding to the hypothesis that Bishop may be living outside the U.S. is the fact that Bishop was
known to manage and create IDs and passports while working for the U.S. government. It is possible that Bishop fled the United States the week of the murders and created a new identity in a foreign nation. He may have used faked birth certificates and faked passports that he created before or during the week of the murders. If Bishop was shrewd enough, he may have illegally manipulated immigration and citizenship into a foreign nation. Bishop spoke five languages fluently and could have assimilated into the countries of Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia and possibly Romania without many obstacles or hurdles.

According to the FBI, Bishop may have had his father's Smith & Wesson M&P .38 revolver and his Yale class ring with him when he vanished in 1976 and could still be in possession of them today. He is also believed to have taken his diplomatic passport with him to leave the US easily. (The Bishop family diplomatic passports were all recovered from their home but Bradford's was missing.)

On October 9, 2014, the body of an unidentified man who resembled Bishop and was killed in a hit-and-run walking along an Alabama highway in 1981 was exhumed by the FBI in Scottsboro to have the DNA, teeth and fingerprints analyzed. The DNA test indicated the deceased was not Bishop.

The Unsolved Murder of Helen Gillings - Cold Blooded Murder In The Hammer

Case: 95-030477

Name: Helen Gillings
Murdered/Body Found: February 17, 1995
Location: Hamilton, Ontario
Date Of Birth: 1976
Age: 19
Height: Unknown
Weight: Unknown
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color:Dark Brown
Race / Ethnicity: Native / Aboriginal / Indigenous
Gender: Female
Distinguishing Characteristics: Petite size

A Little Bit About Helen's Case:

Helen Gillings was a 19 year old Hamilton resident known to frequent the area of King and Emerald Street in Hamilton. She was distinguished by her petite size and long straight dark hair. Helen Gillings worked in the sex trade and is said to frequent a bar at the corner where King and Emerald Street North meet called the Straw Hat. . At approximately 5:00 pm Friday February 17, 1995 her body was found in an alley at the rear of 483 King Street East in Hamilton. She was naked and stuffed beneath an overturned couch in the dark and dirty alley behind a King Street East apartment building, a short walk from the bar. She had been strangled. She was only 19 years old. It is unclear if she was killed in the alley or if her body was dumped there. She was last seen alive entering this alley with a male at approximately 1:00 am Thursday February 16, 1995.

A Little Bit About Helen:

Her life was never easy. She was born in Kenora, Ontario and was adopted by the Gillings family when she was four years old - along with her younger sister. The siblings were raised, along with the Gillings own son, in the small farm town of Sundre, Alberta, 100 km north of Calgary.

Helen was bright. She loved animals and drawing, but not school. By 12, she was rebellious and had run away from home several times. By the tender age of 14, she was living on the street. Helen's adoptive parents were not Indigenous. In that time there wasn't the resources and support where they lived that they have now, but her parents loved Helen and tried their best.

When she turned 16, Helen moved to Toronto where she met Jerry, who was five years older. They moved to Hamilton together in 1994 into a place on Wilson Street, just before their first daughter was born. Neighbours said when Helen arrived, she was petite and pretty, with long, shiny hair and big dark eyes. She usually wore a sweatsuit and was pleasant to talk to. But life wore her down quickly and she aged before their eyes. Jerry once told 'The Spectator' that Helen had 'turned her life around', however Hamilton Police Service and various neighbours saw she was working in the sex trade.

Jerry and Helen had been evicted from their apartment for not paying the rent. A neighbour claimed to see a man throw Helen out of an apartment lobby where she had gone to get warm. "She landed face down in the gutter and the guy just walked around her," the neighbour said. On Jan. 26, 1995, Helen had a second daughter. She was born prematurely, weighing just three and a half pounds. St. Joseph's Hospital kept her there. Less than a month later, Helen would be murdered. Heher family did not come to Hamilton for her funeral. Her newborn baby was still in the hospital and her first born child was just two years old. Both of her daughters were eventually adopted.

A Fathers Secrets And Lies In The Case Of Richard Lee "Cody" Haynes Jr. - Where Is Cody Haynes?

Case: K04-0747

Name: Richard Lee "Cody" Haynes Jr
Missing Since: September 12, 2004
Missing From: Kittitas, WA
Classification: Missing
Date Of Birth: April 16, 1993
Age: 11
Height: 5'0"
Weight: 90 lbs
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Green
Race: Caucasian
Gender: Male
Distinguishing Characteristics: Round birthmark on the inner thigh of his right leg.

A Little Bit About Cody's Case:

Cody resided with his father, Richard Lee Haynes Sr., his four sisters, and Richard's girlfriend, Marla Jaye Harding (sometimes referred to as "Maria Jane Hardin" or "Marla Harding-Haynes"), in a second-floor apartment in the 100 block of north Main Street in downtown Kittitas, Washington in 2004.

Cody disappeared from his family's home between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. on September 12, 2004. He had refused to wash the dishes and Harding punished him by making him sit at the kitchen table for four hours before sending him to his bedroom at about midnight the previous day. Harding told Cody's sisters not to go near his room and told Cody not to leave the room for any reason. Evidently, no one checked on him for close to eighteen hours afterwards. Richard was at work when Cody was sent to his room, but came home later and then left the house in the early morning hours to look for car parts. He did not return until 4:00 p.m.

Cody apparently slipped out unnoticed during this time and arranged his stuffed animals on the bed to make it look like he was asleep. He took a black and green camouflage-patterned bag of clothing with him, but it was later found in a shed near his house. Investigators believe Cody may have hidden the bag there and planned to return for it later. His bicycle was also found in the shed.

There were a few possible sightings of Cody in the local area shortly after his disappearance. A neighbor may have seen him the morning he disappeared, and someone believes they saw him eating potato chips at Johnny's Serv-U later that day. Neither sighting has been confirmed.

Richard notified the police that Cody was gone after he arrived home again that afternoon. Authorities believed at first that the boy had run away from home because he was unhappy at the way he was disciplined, and that he might try to travel to his mother, who lives in Florida. She was suspected of child abuse and is not legally allowed to have contact with her son. Cody did not arrive in Florida and his mother has been eliminated as a suspect in his disappearance.

A week after Cody vanished, his sisters were removed from their father's home and placed into foster care. The removal order alleged abuse, neglect and lack of supervision in the Haynes household and was based mainly on the fact that the girls' brother, Cody, had been made to stay in his room for eighteen hours without being allowed to eat, drink, or use the toilet and without being checked on by an adult. Harding stated that he was a rebellious and deceitful child and needed discipline. Cody's sisters have since between declared dependent by the state and are doing well in foster homes.

Richard and Harding, who married sometime after September 2004, have hired lawyers and will not
cooperate with investigators about Cody's disappearance. The rest of his family has cooperated fully with police. Before the Haynes children were taken from their home, Richard refused to allow police to question them. The Haynes daughters were remanded to foster care for six months, after which time the issue of their placement will be revisited. The family has a history with Washington Child Protection Services (CPS); late in 2001 and again in 2002, Richard was reported to CPS for possibly physically and emotionally abusing and neglecting his children. Witnesses stated that the Haynes children were made to stand outside for long periods in the wintertime without coats or shoes. Both times the allegations were found to be without merit. Cody was in the sixth grade in 2004; he and his sisters were originally public school students but became home-schoolers after the CPS complaints were made.

In February 2005, police obtained a warrant searched the Haynes residence. They had interviewed Cody's sisters several times since their placement in foster care. Initially the girls said nothing had happened to their brother, but later Cody's oldest sister told investigators that he had been beaten severely inside his home the day he vanished. Police searched for traces of blood in the apartment's kitchen to back up the sister's story, but the flooring there had been replaced after Cody's disappearance and without the landlord's knowledge or consent. A second search was made and police seized a computer and Richard's Chevrolet Suburban. They also searched Harding's car. Authorities made what they termed a "significant discovery" during one of these searches, but have not elaborated on what exactly it was they found.

Cody may have left of his own accord, but after receiving the information from his sister investigators announced that he could be the victim of a homicide. They have no evidence that he was killed inside his home, but the fact that he has not been heard from in so long is indicative that he met with foul play. Due to his age and family background, Cody is considered to be in danger. His case was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in October 2005; it remains unsolved.

The Abduction Of Jermaine Allan Mann - LOCATED!

An exciting update on the Jermaine Allan Mann case!

For Lyneth Mann-Lewis, life was never the same after June 24, 1987. A piece of her heart was just gone. Her baby - just a few months shy of his second birthday - was abducted by his father. Her former husband could not accept the fact that Lyneth had been granted sold custody of Jermaine so he stole him during a court-ordered visit. Jermaine had been told his mother had died long ago and was forced to live this fabricated life for the last 31 years. I am happy to share that Jermaine and his mother have been finally reunited.

Allan Mann Jr was arrested in Connecticut on Friday October 26, 2018.

To all of the families out there who are missing their loved ones - NEVER give up hope!

Case: 164DMON

Name: Jermaine Allan Mann
Missing Since: June 24, 1987
Missing From: Toronto, Ontario
Classification: Family Abduction
Date Of Birth: September 6, 1985
Age: 1 year
Height: 3'0
Weight: 35lbs
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Race: Jamaican/Ghanaian-Canadian
Gender: Male
Distinguishing Characteristics: Jermaine has a small birthmark on his left foot.

A Little Bit About Jermaine's Case:

Jermaine was abducted by his noncustodial father, Allan Mann Jr., from Toronto, Ontario on June 24, 1987. A Canadian warrant for his father's arrest was issued the same day of the abduction. In 1982,
Age-progressed image of Mann at age 21 (circa 2006)
Jamaican-born Lyneth and Ghana-born Allan were married. Three years later, on September 6, 1985, their son Jermaine Allan Mann was born. Soon after his birth their relationship began to deteriorate. Lyneth and Allan were separated in 1986. A custody battle ensued over Jermaine and Lyneth was eventually granted sole custody, with Allan being allowed weekend visitation rights. The couple divorced shortly after the custody battle began. The following year Lyneth wanted to visit family in Jamaica for a holiday and was granted permission from the courts to take Jermaine with her. This decision meant that Allan got an extra weekend visitation with Jermaine prior to Lyneth's departure. Lyneth dropped Jermaine off at a court-approved third party location where Jermaine was picked up by his father. It is thought that Allan Mann seized this opportunity to abduct Jermaine. Lyneth has never seen him or her son again. Immediately following the 1987 abduction, the Toronto Police Department began an extensive investigation. Allan had implied that he might return to Ghana but the investigation revealed that this was unlikely. Jermaine was not located and all known leads were exhausted. The trail went cold. It is thought that Allan and Jermaine are in North America, possibly in the New York area.

Abductor of Jermaine Allan Mann: Allan Mann Jr
